Tiger Woods has made a decision about potentially captaining the US Ryder Cup team in 2025.
Woods turned down the opportunity to captain the US team against Europe next year at Bethpage Black Stadium in Long Island, New York, The Telegraph reported. Woods reportedly doesn’t think he has the time to handle the many demands of being a team captain, and he’s also one of the people involved in negotiations between the PGA Tour and the Saudi Arabian subsidiary of LIV Golf, the Public Investment Fund, as a merger remains a possibility. Woods has served as an assistant captain on the Ryder Cup team in the past, leading many to believe he could be a possible starter in 2025.
Now that he is reportedly out of the game, The Telegraph has identified PGA Tour veteran Stuart Cink as the man who could take the captain’s armband. Tom Kershaw of The Times interviewed Cink at the Genesis Scottish Open and asked Woods why he turned down the captaincy.
“Tiger should have gone first, and he did, but it’s not surprising he turned it down,” Cink told Kershaw. \”The PGA Tour is pretty busy right now, and he’s got a lot on his plate.\”
