Tiger Woods is known as one of the greatest players on the golf circuit. But fans don’t know much about his involvement in Phil Mickelson’s refusal to accept an invitation to the dinner to be held at St. Andrews in July 2022. This was around the same time the 53-year-old golfer left the PGA Tour to join the LIV Golf Network.

Last summer, before the British Open, Woods did not allow Mickelson to attend the Champions Dinner at the Home of Golf. Some former champions have backed Woods, who has since contacted the R&A to request the same thing. It turns out that the R&A also sided with the 82-time PGA Tour winner.

Golf writer Alan Shipnuck discusses this in his recently published book, “LIVE AND LET DIE.” Shortly after, a post from X account appeared on the platform, discussing the wording of the writer’s book and the entire storyline regarding Phil Mickelson. #NEW: Alan Shipnuck writes that Tiger Woods was responsible for not allowing Phil Mickelson to attend the St Andrews Champions Dinner: ‘He spoke to several other former champions to get their blessing, then went to the R&A and “Basically, no one wanted Phil to be there, and that would have made the evening weird and awkward,” says one of the men at the dinner. “Which side were they going to take: Tiger or Phil? It’s an easy choice.” (via @firepitstories)

What’s more, even LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman didn’t receive an invitation to the dinner, despite the R&A’s statement at the time.

R&A denies Greg Norman invitation to 150th British Open

Since the launch of the LIV League, a rift has developed between the PGA Tour and the latter. Many golfers have left the PGA Tour to join the highly lucrative LIV league. Not only has this been controversial, but these players have been banned from playing on the PGA Tour. For the 150th Open Championship Championship, R & A made a statement to the last men to specify that Norman, managing director of the Breakaway tour, will not be invited to attend the champions or to visit the Champions dinner in St. Andrews.

It turned out that Tiger Woods will support the research and response decision. Woods and the four-time Major Championship winner Rory McIlroy also supported R&A’s big decision. According to them, Norman had done things that were not in the best interest of the game.
