“I had to win”: Charlie Woods cries after disqualification
Golf may be a family affair for Tiger Woods, but it seems there’s more to it than that.
The American Championship. On Wednesday night, Charlie Woods, the 15-year-old son of the 15-time major winner, became the second member of the Woods family to qualify for the U.S. Junior Rookie Championship.
The younger Woods shot a 7-under 71 in the qualifying tournament at Hawk Following Golf Club in Coral Springs, Fla., earning the respect of the medalists and earning one of 264 spots in the world’s most prestigious junior championship. By agreement with the USGA, Woods overcame a double bogey start in qualifying and recorded five birdies in the final 16 intervals to finish one stroke ahead of his qualifying start.
“I didn’t play anything special on those first two holes, but then I played really well in the final 16,” the younger Woods said Wednesday. “I honestly told myself not to create any more interlopers or pairs and enjoyed the adorableness of the birds when I did collect them. My greatest quality at the moment is putting. I took some of my shots when I needed to.
