‘Sad to hear ‘: Golf World reacts to horrible news from Tiger Woods
The worst fears of golf fans were carried out on Masters on Sunday while Tiger Woods announced its withdrawal before the last day of the major. Woods drink through the start of Bogey in his third rain round on Saturday, arousing the fears of not being able to finish the major in Augusta on Sunday.
And those fears came to fruition when Woods announced he was withdrawing before the final day of action, with a mountain to climb to complete all 72 holes due to the wild weather that has affected the tournament. The 47-year-old revealed he\’d aggravated plantar fasciitis in his foot. “It’s unfortunate that I had to withdraw from the tournament this morning due to a recurrence of my plantar fasciitis,” he tweeted shortly after organizers announced his decision. “Thank you to my fans and masters for showing me so much love and support.” Good luck to today’s players! \ “
It is the second time that Woods has been forced to withdraw from a major championship due to injury in the last 12 months. In September last year, he won the 9th over 79 in the third round and escaped from the PGA championship held at the Southern Hills Country Club in Tarsa.
The 15-time major champion is currently playing a very limited schedule on the PGA Tour because of serious leg injuries sustained in a car accident, but before the Masters he speculated that this might be his farewell to Augusta. “I don’t know how much I have left in me, so I’m just grateful for the time I had here and cherish the memories,” Woods said Tuesday.
The withdrawal marks the first time in Woods’ career that he has failed to complete all 72 holes in every tournament he has played at Augusta National as a professional, a streak that began in 1997. Woods is still dealing with the effects of serious leg injuries he suffered in a car accident in 2021.
He returned to last year’s Masters, finishing tied for 47th and saying completing 72 holes on the rugged terrain was something of a victory. For the 47-year-old Woods, the weather changes meant he had to play 29 holes on Sunday before finishing. “I’ve always loved this golf course and I’ve loved playing this tournament,” Woods said after Saturday’s second round. “Of course I missed a few tournaments due to injuries, but I always wanted to play here. I loved it. »

In November, Woods withdrew from the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas after reporting plantar fasciitis in his right foot. He made it through the cut early Saturday morning in cold, wet conditions, limping at times, and eventually made it to the final two rounds after finishing at 3-over 147. By making the cut, Woods tied Fred Peirce and Gary Player’s Masters record of 23 consecutive cuts, but Woods, who had not missed a Masters tournament since 1996 as an amateur, got off to a terrible start in the third round.
After two bogeys starting at the 10th hole, he made a double bogey on the par-5 15th and then at the par-3 16th to finish at 9 over par and at the bottom of the leaderboard.
In his last start before the Masters, Woods finished tied for 45th at the Riviera PGA Tour in February. On Sunday, fans and commentators expressed sadness for Woods following his withdrawal from the Masters.
