The 15-time major champion has decided not to lead his country in the tournament, citing other “commitments,” although he is still expected to take part. Speaking at Smylie Show, the 32-year-old football player explained: “The vice-capitans are interesting because I think that Phil Mikelson is an actively close friend of Kigan.
“But I have to imagine that since the tiger refused him, it is difficult not to see how the tiger is a vice-captain. “I can’t imagine a world where Tiger and Phil are vice captains together.”

Woods has already played in the biennial Ryder Cup tournament eight times and is perfectly qualified in that respect, but his comments about withdrawing from the race for his country’s captaincy may worry Bradley, who is considering his options for the management position. Woods states: “I felt that my new responsibilities on the [PGA] tour and the time related to temporary officials could not offer the time of the American team and the necessary players as captain. This is the future. It doesn’t mean you don’t want the team’s captain. When the time is right, I will come before this committee and make a decision.
