Golf legend Tiger Woods ordered to resign
Golf legend Colin Montgomerie has urged Tiger Woods to retire, claiming the legend has lost the “aura of passion and charisma” that made him the best player in the sport.
Woods, 48, remains golf’s most popular player, but health problems have significantly reduced the number of tournaments he plays. He has had five back surgeries and four knee surgeries, and broke his right leg and ankle in a horrific car accident in Los Angeles in February 2021.
As a result, Woods has played in just four PGA Tour events this year, missing the PGA Championship and the U.S. Open in May. Woods will play in next week’s Royal Troon Open, but has indicated it will be his final tournament of 2024.
Golf legend Colin Montgomerie has told Tiger Woods to retire as he continues to struggle. Montgomerie says Woods has lost the “aura of passion and charisma” that made him legendary.
Montgomerie, a Ryder Cup legend and former world number two, believes it’s finally time for Woods to hang up his boots. Aren’t they in there? They would have thought we’d be there,” Montgomery told the Times.
\’There is a time for all sportsmen to say goodbye, but it\’s very difficult to tell Tiger it\’s time to go. Obviously, he still feels he can win. We are more practical.
“I hope people remember Tiger for who he was, the aura of passion and charisma that surrounded him. That’s not the case now.
“At Pinehurst, he didn’t seem to like a single stroke and you’d think, ‘What is he doing?'” He’s coming to Troon and he won’t even want to be there.
Earlier this week, Woods stepped down as captain of Team USA for the 2025 Ryder Cup, citing his tedious role in the PGA Tour’s negotiations with Saudi Arabian sponsor LIV Golf. Woods was the leading candidate for the captaincy position, but withdrew from the position, Keegan Bradley took on the role.
