How much did Robert McIntyre win from the $9 million Genesis Scottish Open prize pool? We looked at winner payouts
The Genesis Scottish Open took place this weekend. It began on Thursday, July 11 and continued until Sunday, July 14. Many of the top players on the PGA Tour participated to compete for their share of the total prize money of $9 million. The winner will receive a sizeable prize of $1.62 million.
The eventual winner was Robert McIntyre. McIntyre weathered the storm and made an impressive comeback attempt. He needed a few golfers to stumble a little, and they did just that by opening the door for him. He was successful (thanks to a clutch eagle) and earned $1.62 million for his efforts.
The Genesis Scottish Open prize money was more in line with the standard money handed out in golf. With so many big-name events, it’s hard to remember any with inflated prize pools.
While the big, big-name event purses (up to $25 million total) are unusual, the $9 million on offer this weekend is more the norm. The final round of the Genesis Scottish Open was truly a memorable stage, which led to a number of leadership changes with many leaders losing their leads and dropping down the rankings. Collin Morikava and Ludwig Aberg were examples.
Adam Scott appeared in a very good position after the 17th Hall, holding two strokes leadership in many players. Among them was Robert MacIntyre, who finished one hole behind Scott, at 16 with an eagle before finishing with an incredibly unexpected draw. Scott was two strokes ahead and in good form. It wasn’t insurmountable, but he was in a very strong position until he couldn’t overcome it. McIntyre turned the tournament on its head by forcing Scott to respond.
Scott was only able to parry on the 18th try. As a result, McIntyre only needed to birdie one of the final two holes to secure an impressive win that he said he needed to make up for last year’s loss to Rory McIlroy, with a par on the 17th and a birdie on the 18th to win.
