Tiger Woods spoke about Ryder Cup captaincy during a press conference ahead of the British Open at Royal Troon, revealing why he is avoiding taking responsibility for the United States.
Tiger Woods speaking to the media during a press conference during practice for the 152nd British Open Championship. Tiger Woods revealed that he turned down the opportunity to captain the US Ryder Cup team due to protracted negotiations between the PGA and LIV Golf.
The 2025 st Gamesweek will be held at Bethpage Black in Long Island, New York. Woods was the front-runner for the position in negotiations with former PGA of America CEO Seth Waugh.
The 15-time major champion suggested his tour commitments meant he didn’t have time to take on the added responsibility. Woods added that it will take a long time for the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), which owns LIV.
Woods was part of a delegation that met with PIF in New York last month after the PIF signed a framework agreement with PGA 13 months ago to set up a new commercial entity. The two parties hope to reunite golf after LIV disbands in 2022, a time when the sport’s top talent will no longer be able to compete regularly.
“It was a very difficult decision for me to make,” Woods said. \ “My time was downloaded by the tour and everything we were trying to make. Phone “I told Seth I didn’t think I could do the job properly, I couldn’t put the time into it. “There was barely any time to do what we’re doing now and then add in the TGL T-shirt and the Ryder Cup next year. You add it all up, with the negotiations with PIF, all of this is happening at the same time and there are only a few hours in the day.”
