British Open 2024: Bryson DeChambeau reveals Tiger Woods broke two-year silence to tell him

The advent of LIV Golf has brought about many changes in professional golf. It also ended one of the game’s budding bromances. Before LIV, Tiger Woods and Bryson DeChambeau were boys.

They played practice rounds together. They played in the Ryder Cup together. They probably played video games together. Woods clearly liked DeChambeau’s work ethic both on the field and in the weight room, and as a physics enthusiast, Tiger thought it was great that Bryson majored in the subject in college. And I think he liked to find golf comrades.

But all of these good vibrations ended when Deshambo signed a contract with LIV in June 2022. The following March, Bryson revealed that the 15-time major champion had cut off all contact with him, and the Tiger didn’t even reply to his happy birthday wishes. Rude.
But Tiger broke his two-year silence at the British Open this week when he approached Bryson at the Royal Troon Range to congratulate him on winning the US Open last month.

And even after a tough opening round of 76 on Thursday, DeChambeau spoke about how much it meant to him to hear from his old friend and idol.
“This is our first communication, but he’s a competitor and I have a lot of respect for him,” DeChambeau said in response to a question about whether this was the first time he’d spoken to LIV since defecting.

“I’m sure winning two US Opens definitely helped him come and congratulate me. I don’t know what his position is, but it was very thoughtful and I appreciated it.”
