Genesis Scottish Open – Day Four

Rory McIlroy is the favorite to win the 2024 Genesis Scottish Open. The Northern Irishman, the event’s defending champion, comes into the competition with 7-1 odds, according to SportsLine.

The 35-year-old golfer leads the field that features 33 of the top 50 in the Official World Golf Ranking among the top contenders.

For the unversed, the Genesis Scottish Open is set to tee off on Thursday, July 11, at The Renaissance Club in North Berwick, Scotland. The 31st tournament of the 2024 PGA Tour schedule will see a stacked 156-player compete for the $9,000,000 prize purse. World No.2 McIlroy is the highest-ranked player on the event’s field and the outright favorite.

It is pertinent to note that McIlroy comes into the Scottish national open competition after a brief break. The golfer took some time off the field to recover from his loss at the US Open in June. Following his second-place finish in the competition, the Irishman stated that he was pulling out from all competitions and would return for the Scottish Open.

McIlroy, who teed off the year with a win at the DP World Tour’s Dubai Desert Classic, failed to carry the form onto the PGA Tour. The ace golfer finished T19 at The Players Championship, T22 at the Masters, T12 at the PGA Championship, and solo second at the US Open. He tasted victory at the Wells Fargo Championship and the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

A third-place finish at the Valero Texas Open and a T4 finish at the Canadian Open are some other big results he recorded. All eyes will be on McIlroy this weekend as he comes into the Genesis Scottish Open after a break and a week ahead of The Open Championship.
