Golf commentator mocks LIV golfer during British Open Championship broadcast
Ryder Cup legend and part-time commentator Sam Torrance took aim at LIV golf when asked what he thought of fellow golfer Abraham Anser during the second round.
At the time, he was hitting the par-3 8th hole, famous for the stamp. \ “Are you discussing Liv golf? \” Torrance asked his colleagues from the commentary box.
After that, he added it as a salacast: \ “I don’t know what you are talking about there? MAJESTIC AND LIV?
“Abraham is here, he is there too. He went to live somewhere else.\”
If that wasn\’t petty enough, Sky Sports Golf commentator and three-time LPGA Tour winner Trish Johnson piled in on LIV Golf during Featured Groups coverage of Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka in the third round.
Sky\’s Richard Kaufman started the conversation and teed up Johnson to give her views on LIV Golf. Johnson and Koepka both joined LIV Golf for the tour’s inaugural season in 2022. Johnson reportedly signed a deal worth about $150 million, while Koepka is making just under that amount. Here’s how the conversation went:
“Dustin’s the guy with the four aces…” Kaufman said.
Johnson responded: Are you talking like he loves the game of poker?”
Kaufman said, “Brooks is a Smash Golf player, he’s a Smash GC player. These are their teams.”
Johnson responded, “What is this?” This is not golf, what are you talking about?
“Just letting people who want to know know,” Kaufman said.
This comment did not please LIV Golf fans.
“Just another day, another tool to pretend you don’t know LIV Golf,” one fan wrote on X/Twitter. A LIV Golf fan account commented: “Nothing better than trying to alienate some of the fans watching. Who is exacerbating the divide in golf?
“Since these people still have jobs, it’s no wonder the average audience on tour over the past few years has been over 60,” another angry fan wrote. Legendary golf commentator David Feherty attacked a player after the second round of the Open.
He was asked for his comment on DP World Tour professional Romain Langasque’s withdrawal from the tournament while on the 8th hole. Irish people did not hold his evaluation.
