This is his first public statement since news broke that he had filed for divorce from his wife, Erica Stoll. The 35 -year -old football player played the media on Wednesday for the PGA championship in Barhara this week.
The second major in the season will occur a few days after the announcement that Makira was separated from the table.

News of the split broke on Monday after divorce papers were filed in Florida state court. The couple have been married for seven years and have a three-year-old daughter, Poppy Kennedy McIlroy. McIlroy was spotted practicing on Tuesday without his wedding ring, but looked relaxed as he joked with friends and caddie Harry Diamond.

He comes into this week’s PGA Championship in great form after winning last week’s Wells Fargo Championship, but his biggest slump dates back to 2014. McIlroy held his pre-tournament press conference on Wednesday, but it started with a warning that he would not be discussing his private life.

In a brief media conference which lasted just over eight minutes, one reporter asked McIlroy how he was doing on a ‘personal’ level ahead of the tournament. “I’m ready to play this week,” said McIlroy, who will play alongside Dustin Johnson and Justin Rose in the first two rounds.

He added: “I’ve come so far that I’ve already had success.”

McIlroy’s last big success came 10 years ago at the same venue as this week’s PGA Championship. “Looking back, it’s hard to recapture those memories and emotions,” McIlroy said, recalling his victory at Valhalla. For me, it’s all about confidence and momentum and trying to maintain that.”
