Charlie Woods’ scores today: Full results from son Tiger’s first round at the 2024 U.S. Junior Amateur Golf Championship
While questions are looming over Tiger Woods’ future after he struggled at the British Open and fell well short of the cut, his son Charlie Woods appeared ready to take another step in his young career on Monday.
Woods took to the course for the U.S. Junior Amateur in Michigan, playing in the tournament for the first time. He is one of 264 players in the field for the six-day tournament, which begins with stroke play and admits only 64 players beyond that.
The US Junior Amateur has had some notable winners in its recent history, including Scottie Scheffler, Jordan Spieth and Will Zalatoris. Woods hopes to prove he belongs with some of the best young golfers in the world as his career begins to take shape. Here’s Woods’ performance at the U.S. Junior Amateur.
Woods struggled on his first day on the course, fumbling his perfect first three holes. He made double bogeys on the fourth, ninth, eleventh, fourteenth and seventeenth holes to finish at 12 over par and fall far behind heading into the second and final day of stroke play.
It was by no means an easy day for anyone at Oakland Hills Country Club in the U.S. Junior Amateur, with only 19 players under par midway through the day, but his struggles landed him much closer to the bottom of the field than the top of the field. Only 64 players will advance to the tournament portion of the event after Tuesday. At the end of the round, Woods was tied for 189th out of 201 players who had already teed off.
Woods avoided a worse fate with two birdies, on the fifth and 12th holes, but he is surely not satisfied with his performance in one of the biggest events of his young career.
