Charlie Woods shocks the South Florida PGA Junior Tour once again with another impressive record-breaking achievement – Empowering athletes on their sporting journeys and inspiring triumphs.
14-year-old Charlie Woods (middle) proudly displays his trophy collection after winning the SFPGA’s West Coast High School tournament at Cypress Woods Golf and Country Club in Naples on September 30, 2023. Benjamin coach Toby Harbeck (left) stands alongside him. Those who have been tracking the progress of Tiger Woods’ son on the golf course may have wondered about his future as a high school player.
The Benjamin School, which is situated in Palm Beach Gardens, has already benefited greatly from the exceptional skills of a 14-year-old freshman prodigy. The Buccaneer boys golf team secured victory at the West Coast High School Tournament on Saturday afternoon – an event hosted by the South Florida PGA Junior Tour. This triumph marks their progress towards potentially obtaining a fourth state championship title with Charlie leading as individual champion for this two-day tournament held at Cypress Woods Golf and Country Club located in Naples. Seniors Aiden Miller and Tyler Bruneau partook tied for second place while Luke Wise finished fourth out of all participants present during these days’ events. Unfortunately, Travis Robertson (another Benjamin senior) withdrew after finishing his game at two over par- putting him out of contention to continue competing further into future rounds due most likely because he was not feeling well enough or some other unforeseen circumstance arose unexpectedly impacting his overall performance throughout said competition period upon reflection afterwards perhaps
Charlie’s latest golf outing was his second low-round performance following the Notah Begay III Junior Golf National Championship Last Chance Florida Regional held at Howey-in-the-Hills’ Mission Inn Resort, which Benjamin will compete in this fall for the high school state championship tournament. Assisted by Tiger as caddie and with scores of 71 and a career-best tying round of 66 including nine birdies, Charlie triumphed in the boys’ age division qualifier to secure entry into Louisiana’s Coushatta national championships scheduled from Nov.4-6 – coinciding with Florida High School Athletic Association golf state championships starting on November sixth where both team and individual winners will be determined.
Last week, Charlie spoke highly of Mission Inn Resort’s El Campeon course in a post-match interview following his impressive scorecard of 68 for the tournament. He even mentioned to Ryan Burr that the course was great for him. Although high school rules may prevent his dad from being on the bag during Charlie’s first varsity state championship in November, he is still considered a well-experienced “rookie” player by the Bucs team. In fact, with Tiger Woods acting as their caddie and helping him sink an important putt on hole 18 at Notah Begay event recently won by Charlie, it looks like they have nothing to worry about! Justin Leonard also took notice of similarities between young Charlies game and Tiger Wood’s technique while watching them play golf together at Florida junior golf club Championship last year.
