In his initial U.S. Junior tournament, Charlie Woods failed to make the cut

During the second round of stroke play in the 2024 U.S. Junior Amateur, Charlie Woods proceeds towards the 14th tee.During the second round of the 76th U.S. Junior Amateur at Oakland Hills Country Club, Charlie Woods hit a wall on Tuesday afternoon after struggling in his first nine holes with a double and triple bogey resulting in five over par performance.Shortly thereafter, he eventually found his rhythm.

On the challenging South Course at Oakland Hills, Tiger Woods’ 15-year-old son demonstrated some moments of skill and determination that allowed him to leave with pride. Even his father couldn’t help but crack a small smile about it.During his final three holes, the young golfer from Jupiter, Fla. faced disappointing soft bogeys – even suffering a frustrating three-putt on the last hole. This unfortunate series of events tarnished an impressive finish to his game. While he scored one-over 36 instead of par during the front nine (his second round), it was still considered relatively sound overall.

With a tap in for his last putt, he completed the round with an 80. Unfortunately, his total score of 162 put him at 22-over par and tied for the lowly position of 240th out of all 264 competitors in the field.Match play on the South Course began Wednesday for the highest 64 scorers. Chase Kyes from Birmingham, Alabama, and Davis Ovard hailing from Frisco, Texas were Woods’ respective playing cohorts who also qualified by scoring 66 and 68 each.

During the second round of stroke play at the 2024 U.S. Junior Amateur, Charlie Woods takes his tee shot on the ninth hole.To begin his second round on the par-4 10th hole, Woods expertly striped his opening drive straight down towards the sprinkler heads. This is not an exaggerated statement – it’s a factual description! Unfortunately for him, though, luck was not entirely on his side as one of his shots stopped just an inch behind a centerline sprinkler. Consequently, he had to take relief in order to continue playing fairly. He landed his shot on the 10th green, stopping 15 feet away from the pin. He managed to two-putt and secure a par score. The same outcome occurred at hole number two, specifically the lengthy par-4 11th: he skillfully drove it down the fairway, made it onto the green in one stroke, and completed with just two putts for another successful par.

Despite a challenging first day during his debut with USGA on Monday morning, Woods was encouraged by the start. His father had won three Junior Am titles in a row and for Charlie, this gave him hope. He struggled after posting 12-over 82 in the easier North Course due to hot weather conditions but remained focused while playing solely for pride and experience as large crowds watched Tiger watch golf alongside them during this suburban Detroit match.

At first glance, it appeared he was succeeding in his efforts. However, at 3:05 p.m. ET, a storm front arrived and halted play for an hour and forty-five minutes due to heavy rain.

In this interlude of time, Woods seemed to have lost his touch as evidenced by playing the final five holes with eight over par on his initial nine hole course period- specifically struggling on the challenging 18th where he failed twice pitching up then watched helplessly as is ball rolled back towards him both times after coming short of reaching target green area from two hits off tee box; finally hitting accurately while using third attempt before completing putt successfully within twenty feet distance away from cup’s location .Subsequently, the young player exhibited good sportsmanship and attained his sole birdie of the day on the third hole’s par-3 course by skillfully hitting his tee shot to a mere distance of five feet.

In spite of lacking numerous opportunities for shots in close proximity, he managed to avoid missing too many fairways and greens while making his way back home.Having signed his card, he joined his father and caddie along with a team of security personnel in a golf cart. Similar to the previous day, he chose not to interact with reporters. Despite lacking any evident emotions as they drove towards the parking lot, one could tell that he gained valuable experience from today’s game – an overall satisfactory outcome for him as a golfer.
