As Keegan Bradley breaks his silence on being left out of Team USA, Woods receives a chance to play in the Ryder Cup.
After declining the role, Tiger Woods has announced that he will not be serving as the Team USA Ryder Cup captain in 2025. However, Keegan Bradley – who currently holds the position – extended an invitation for Woods to return to the competition through a different avenue.
Keegan Bradley, the captain of Team USA Ryder Cup, has emphasized that he wants Tiger Woods to participate in the 2025 tournament despite his decision not to serve as skipper.
It was anticipated that the golf legend, who has won 15 majors, would guide America’s team at Bethpage Black Course. However, much to everyone’s surprise, he announced his decision not to take up the captaincy after Zach Johnson stepped down from the position; this news rocked the sports community.
Johnson observed a lackluster exhibition in Rome during the year 2023, as Americans continued to struggle on European terrain for an excruciating period of three decades. Nevertheless, Woods declined the offer of captaincy due to conflicting commitments hindering his availability.
We eagerly anticipate Bradley’s leadership as he takes over the helm, wondering what it holds for Team USA in the future. With the upcoming Ryder Cup coming back to America, there is a possibility of Woods getting involved – but only if he expresses interest.
With his name attached to an impressive eight Ryder Cup teams, Woods undoubtedly possesses a vast amount of experience. At the 3M Open in Minnesota, Bradley expressed interest in including Woods in future events by stating: “I’ve conveyed to Tiger that he’s free to participate as much or little as he wishes.”
He continued by saying that they haven’t really talked about it as the British Open is currently ongoing. He mentioned that he doesn’t want to bother Tiger with it since both of them have their jobs to focus on. However, he confirmed that there will be a right time for him to talk things over with his fellow countryman in the coming months, considering how far out from now they still are – 14 long months away.
It seems possible that Tiger Woods, who has made eight appearances in the Ryder Cup tournament, could join Team USA in 2025 if the door remains open for him.
The decision on the Team USA captaincy offer has been a challenging one for Tiger Woods, and he openly admitted to this during The Open. As the golf icon put it: “I must say that arriving at my final verdict was no easy feat.”
The Tour and our objectives have kept me incredibly busy lately. I’m currently juggling numerous subcommittees, which require a significant amount of my time each day along with countless conference calls. Due to these demands, I expressed concerns to Seth (Waugh; the retiring CEO of PGA America) about being unable to fulfill my responsibilities adequately.”
He explained that he was unable to commit himself fully because of time constraints. With his current workload and upcoming events like the TGL and Ryder Cup next year, along with ongoing negotiations with PIF all happening simultaneously, there simply weren’t enough hours in a day for him to manage everything effectively.
