Bryson DeChambeau sends retirement message to Tiger Woods after PGA Tour star\’s future questioned
Bryson DeChambeau has given his verdict on Tiger Woods\’ future in professional golf, after it was suggested the 15-time major champion should retire from competing
Bryson DeChambeau believes that Tiger Woods still has what it takes to compete at the top of professional golf, after doubt was cast over the 15-time major champion\’s playing future.
Woods made just his fifth start of the season at The Open Championship last week, missing the cut following testing conditions at Royal Troon. Before the event, Colin Montgomerie suggested Woods’ time competing for golf’s biggest prize money was over, even though the 82-time PGA Tour player has continued to play in all four majors.
Woods himself was quick to refute those claims, commenting before last week’s British Open that “as a former champion, I’m exempt from tax until I’m 60.” Colin is different. He is not a former champion so he is not exempt. Therefore, he has no possibility to make this decision.
“I do. So when I get to his age, I’ll be able to make that decision, but he’s not. » After missing the cut last Friday, the three-time British Open winner revealed plans to return at the year’s final major tournament at Royal Portrush next year, a clear sign he still thinks he can compete.
A week later, former Ryder Cup teammate DeChambeau spoke out, saying he believes the 48-year-old has the right to continue competing at the highest level. “He’s probably the most influential person in golf right now,” the Crushers captain said in an interview with LIV Golf UK this week.
“I think he’s the most dominant person in golf right now and he deserves to play in the big leagues. He has given more than enough to this great game and continues to give back by participating in these tournaments and trying to win. He wants to win. He’s a competitor. I think it’s admirable that he’s able to do that.”
