Tiger Woods’ son Charlie loses by 18 strokes in U.S. Junior Amateur

Golf icon Tiger Woods’ 15-year-old son, Charlie Woods, continues to follow in his father’s footsteps but recently missed a junior golf tournament.

On Tuesday, July 23, Woods shot a 10-over 80 in the second round after shooting a 12-over 82 the day before, missing the cut by 18 strokes, according to the Associated Press and USA Today. Charlie, meanwhile, is slowly adjusting to professional golf, competing alongside his father in the PNC Championship each of the past four years, according to the AP. The father-son duo is expected to compete again in December. In June, Charlie qualified for his first USGA championship, and he told reporters at the time that he hopes to one day win the U.S. Open after playing on the PGA Tour. “The USGA means a lot to me,” he said. “I want to win a USGA championship and hopefully one day win a U.S. Open.”

The teenager qualified for his first amateur tournament after shooting a 1-under-par 71 at Eagle Trace Golf Club in Coral Springs, Florida.

Charlie has been competing on the golf course more frequently this year as he begins to find his footing in the sport his father, 48, has dominated and defined over much of the last three decades.
