Jon Rahm talks about Tiger Woods’ famous moment – ”It was the biggest overreaction”

LIV Golf star Jon Rahm admits that his celebration after beating Tiger Woods in the 2018 Ryder Cup was “the biggest overreaction to a four-foot player I’ve ever seen.”

Rahm will represent Spain at the Paris Olympics, and the golf tournament will take place at Le Golf National. It’s a course Rahm knows well and has fond memories of: He made his Ryder Cup debut at Le Golf National in 2018 for Team Europe. Despite being the youngest player on each team, the two-time major champion played a key role in helping Thomas Bjorn’s team beat Team USA by 7.5 points.

After losing his first two matches, Rahm beat Woods 2&1 in singles on Sunday. He exploded with emotion after sinking a nerve-wracking 4-foot putt on the par-4 17th hole to secure the win.

Asked where his win over Woods ranked in his career, the 2023 Masters champion told reporters: “Yes, I think that’s the best thing I’ve ever done.” It was my first Ryder Cup point, so I’m very grateful.

“I wasn’t having the best week, I got beaten by (Justin) Rousey in the first match, I lost by 18 points, and then (Ian) Poulter kind of beat me in the second match. We lost to the great duo [Jordan] Spieth/Justin Thomas and to win my first Ryder Cup point on Sunday against Tiger is something unique.
