Tiger Woods was ranked eighth on ESPN’s list of the 100 greatest athletes of the 21st century, ahead of the likes of Usain Bolt, Cristiano Ronaldo and Kobe Bryant. ESPN recently released its list of the 100 greatest athletes of the 21st century, which includes many of the records that were broken this century and who have made their mark on sports history. ESPN didn’t look at players’ overall career performances, but instead focused only on their accomplishments this century.
Woods is arguably the greatest golfer in the history of the sport. He has 82 wins on the PGA Tour, including 15 major championships. Despite being the tour’s biggest winner, he is only three wins behind Jack Nicklaus in the overall major championship standings. Tiger Woods has won 13 majors this century, the most of any golfer. He has also spent 683 weeks as the world’s No. 1 golfer, including a record 283 consecutive weeks. He also has 11 major wins as the world’s No. 1 golfer, nine more than the next best player.
Speaking of ESPN’s list, legendary American swimmer Michael Phelps took the top spot as the greatest athlete of the 21st century. During this period, he won 28 Olympic medals, including 23 gold medals. At the 2008 Beijing Olympics, he won eight gold medals, more than any other athlete at a single Olympic Games. Tennis legend Serena Williams is ranked number two on ESPN’s list of the 100 Greatest Athletes. She has won 23 Grand Slam titles in total, including 22 in the 21st century. Other notable names on the list include Lionel Messi, LeBron James, Roger Federer and Simone Biles. Phil Mickelson (68), Annika Sorenstam (89) and Rory McIlroy (93) are the other two golfers on the list. Will Tiger Woods play in the 2024 Paris Olympics?
Tiger Woods will not take part in the 2024 Paris Olympics golf tournament, which begins on Thursday, August 1 at the Golf National. Woods didn’t get the chance to represent the United States at the Olympics in his prime because golf hadn’t been included in the program for over 100 years.
After being included in the 1900 and 1904 Olympics, golf didn’t return until 2016. That year, Tiger Woods suffered injuries that prevented him from participating. He failed to qualify in 2020 because only the top 60 players in the Olympic Golf Ranking (OGR) are eligible for the Olympics. Tiger Woods is currently struggling to maintain his ranking as he is not playing enough tournaments due to fitness issues.
