Rory McIlroy reportedly hired a private investigator to serve divorce papers on Erica Stoll 24 hours after winning the Wells Fargo Championship. Rory McIlroy has reportedly hired a private investigator to serve divorce papers on Erica Stoll.
The revelation comes from a report in the Belfast Telegraph over the weekend, when McIlroy took a well-deserved week’s break from professional golf during a busy main season. According to flight tracker Radaratlas2, McIlroy’s private jet was in Italy and the golfer may have been attending a wedding, but this has not yet been proven.
McIlroy filed for divorce from his wife of seven years on May 13, 24 hours after winning his 26th PGA Tour title at the Wells Fargo Championship. According to BT, McIlroy digitally signed the document between 9:06pm and 9:08pm ET on May 9.
The lawsuit was filed in Palm Beach Circuit Court by Thomas Sasser, the lawyer who represented Tiger Woods in his divorce from Elin Nordegren after his infidelity was revealed.
Court docs also show Carl Woods served Erica with the summons.
Woods has been a cop since 1987, is a certified homicide investigator and a licensed private investigator. BT said:
“According to Woods’ statement, he received the divorce papers from Sasser’s office at 9:58am on May 13th and handed them to Stoll personally at the McIlroys’ home at Jack Nicklaus’ luxury apartment complex, the Bears Club, at 10:30am.
“He described Stoll as a white woman in her early 30s with blonde hair, slim build, between 5ft 7ins and 5ft 8ins tall, not wearing glasses. “The summons served on Stoll warned her that she had 20 days to file a written response to her husband’s motion with the Clerk of the Circuit Court.”

The document also said: “A phone call will not protect you. Your written response, including the case number listed above and the names of the parties, must be filed if you want the court to hear your side of the case. “If you fail to file a response on time, you may lose your case and your wages, money and property may subsequently be seized by the court without further notice.
“There are other legal requirements. You can call a lawyer right now. If you don’t know a lawyer, you can call a lawyer referral service or a legal aid office (listed in the phone book).”
