On Friday, Olympic gymnastics champion Simone Biles waded into the U.S. presidential race by posting a response that seems to be an indirect retort to former President Donald Trump’s remark about “Black jobs.”

“I adore my job,” Biles shared on X after singer Ricky Davila’s post that stated, “The iconic image of the greatest gymnast mastering her amazing profession and taking home gold medals.”

Hours following her victory in the all-around Paris Olympics gymnastics finals, where she bested Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade and grabbed her ninth gold medal, Biles participated in an exchange. At 27 years old, she is the eldest woman to emerge as Olympic champion for gymnastics since 1952.

Trump, who is slated as the Republican presidential nominee for 2024, has faced criticism for his contentious debate with Democratic President Joe Biden in June.

Trump’s assertion that migrants are snatching “Black jobs” and “Hispanic jobs” from Americans has stirred up criticism. Detractors have labeled it as a racist and offensive effort to broaden his support base beyond the white conservative demographic.

During the National Association of Black Journalists conference, moderators pressed Trump to define a “Black job,” leading him to respond that anyone with employment qualifies as having a Black job. This remark was met with disapproving noises from the audience.

Vance, Ohio Senator and Trump’s vice presidential nominee, had previously expressed disapproval towards Biles. In a Fox News Channel appearance in 2021 after she withdrew from the Olympics competition due to safety concerns for herself in Tokyo – triggering global talks on mental health issues – Vance wondered why Biles did not persevere instead.

At the time he was campaigning for Senate, Vance expressed his belief that our therapeutic society’s tendency to commend individuals not for their moments of strength or heroism but rather on their weakest moments is a negative reflection.

A message seeking comment on Biles’ post was not immediately responded to by Trump’s campaign. Additionally, no further comments were provided by representatives of Biles regarding her thoughts on the 2024 U.S. presidential election or her original post.
