Charlie Woods and Eva Lai won their divisions at the 2024 South Florida PGA Junior Cup. The event, held on the newly renovated East Course at BallenIsles Country Club in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, is simply called “The Cup” and is one of eight junior tournaments on the South Florida Junior PGA Tour.
Woods beat out 62 other junior golfers, while Lai beat out 25 girls. Woods shot 73-68-73 to be the only golfer in the division to finish under par.
“I feel like it’s the result of a lot of hard work this summer,” Woods said at the PGA meet. “I wanted to get myself back and I’m happy with the way I played.”
Two weeks ago, Woods missed out on qualifying for American Day, the Junior Amateur, which is open to the first 64 players. “I really wanted to win,” he said of the junior title. “I was focused and I knew what I had to do to achieve it. I wanted to prove I could do more.
Lai never trailed, finishing with a 1-under 71 to beat Abigail Sheldon.
“I had a bad day yesterday, but I didn’t want to give up,” Lai said of her second-round score of 77. Lai is the daughter of former PGA Tour player Mark Lai, 71, who won a PGA Tour event.
Barren Isles hosted the PGA Championship in 1971.
