Rory McIlroy trashes Matt Kuchar in nine-word rant following PGA Tour scandal
Rory McIlroy verbally attacked Matt Kuchar in 2019 in the wake of his PGA Tour caddie scandal, but this brutal rant also applies to his current dilemma.
Long before Matt Kuchar bizarrely refused to play the final hole of the Wyndham Championship this weekend, Rory McIlroy harshly criticized the American in the wake of another controversy.
Back in 2019, Kuchar drew the ire of many golf fans when it was revealed that he paid David “El Tucan” Ortiz just $5,000 after the caddie helped him win the Mayakoba Golf Classic, where the first prize at the time was $1,296. million. Kuchar added fuel to the fire by expressing some disappointment to the Golf Channel about the low payout, which I was very happy about and very happy that he had a good week and won some big money. “Making $5,000 is a great week.” In a statement from the PGA Tour, Kuchar attempted to walk back his previous comments, saying he would make amends with Ortiz, who said he expected to receive $50,000 for his services. The Florida native agreed to pay the “full amount” he asked for, as well as donate an undisclosed amount to the Mayakoba tournament in an effort to support “charitable causes” in Mexico. Despite his efforts to restore peace, Kuchar couldn’t escape McIlroy’s hilarious probing. A few months later, at the Wyndham Trophy, Kuchar revealed that McIlroy’s two-point lead in the season race cost him $300,000, to which the Northern Irishman quickly responded: »
Kuchar took the brutal tirade in stride, chuckling as the rest of the room erupted in laughter. But five years later, McIlroy’s comment has taken on new meaning.
