Genesis Invital is one of the events owned by the PGA tour, limited to field events, providing an increase in portfolios. Adam Scott, Justin Thomas and Will Zalatoris have already been confirmed as one-off sponsors, with Woods now named as the final player.

Woods used last year’s event to mark his first PGA Tour appearance outside of a major since the Zozo Championship in October 2020, having struggled with injuries in recent years and playing a limited schedule following a car accident in February 2021. The event marked Woods’ PGA Tour debut as a 16-year-old amateur in 1992. Last year at Riviera, Woods shot a four-under-par round to finish tied for 45th. In December, Woods finished 18th at the Hero World Challenge, his first start since ankle surgery after withdrawing from the Masters in April, and then tied for fifth at the PNC Championship with his son Charlie that same month.

The 48-year-old said he was aiming for a “tournament a month” for the upcoming season, with an appearance at the Riviera and an event at the Florida Swing. Potential players would be realistic starters before the main season begins with The Masters from April 11-14. Woods will likely play in the PGA Championship May 16-19 at Valhalla, where he won the Wanamaker Cup at the Tiger Slam in 2000, but he does not currently have automatic berth in next month’s U.S. Open.

If Woods himself fails to secure a spot in the coming months, the USGA will likely grant him an exemption, in which case the former world No. 1 would likely play in the 152nd British Open Championship in July.
