One-time PGA Tour winner and 1992 Rookie of the Year Mark Carnevale has sadly died at the age of 64, it has been confirmed by the PGA Tour today.

Carnevale died unexpectedly on Monday July 22, according to a report.

The American captured his first and only PGA Tour title at the 1992 Chattanooga Classic in his rookie season.

Carnevale nearly landed his second title on the main circuit but he was defeated in a six-man playoff at the 1994 Byron Nelson.

That was eventually won by Neal Lancaster.

He also won tournaments on the US Golf Tour in 1989 and the Nike Tour in 1997.

Carnevale made four major appearances with his best result a T25 at the 1998 US Open.

He then played a handful of senior tournaments.

In 2005, Carnevale entered a golf broadcasting career where he excelled as an on-course reporter for SiriusXM Radio.

Carnevale also regularly covered tournaments for ‘PGA Tour LIVE’ on ESPN+.

Mark was referred to by his colleagues as ‘Carny’.

Carnevale was last seen working at the Genesis Scottish Open at The Renaissance Club from 11-14 July.

PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan posted a statement following the sad passing of Carnevale.

Monahan said:

“Mark was a beloved part of the TOUR family for a long time.

“He was a member of that elite club, a PGA TOUR winner, and then he held numerous roles within the industry, most recently as a significant voice in PGA TOUR Radio’s coverage.

“Mark knew the game and did a terrific job of conveying insights from his unique point of view – and with an engaging wit and sense of humor – to fans from countless TOUR events through the years.

“We will miss Mark and send our condolences to his loved ones.”

Billy Horschel, who finished tied second at The Open at Royal Troon on Sunday, tweeted his condolences ahead of this week’s 3M Open.

Horschel tweeted: “Very sad news. Carney was a great guy. Loved chatting with him at the back of range at TPC Sawgrass. He loved the game of golf. He will be missed.”

PGA Tour LIVE’s X / Twitter account posted: “We’re heartbroken to share the news of the loss of one of our own, Mark Carnevale. His humor, knowledge, and enthusiasm for the game and life will be greatly missed.”

Gary Christian, former PGA Tour pro and one of Carnevale’s colleagues at PGA Tour LIVE, tweeted: “Very sorry to hear the news, Mark was a lovely guy, knew golf back to front and had a great way of conveying his knowledge and passion in a simple and clear manner. We will miss you on the road Carny.”

Our thoughts are with all of Mark’s family and friends at this very difficult time.

RIP Mark Carnevale.
