The new regulation grants players permission to employ a cart during competitions upon obtaining an exemption, similar to John Daly’s utilization of one in the PGA Championship held last month. However, when questioned in 2022, Woods categorically refused any chance of availing a golf cart on the PGA Tour from then onward.
Morikawa was asked in his press conference before The Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village in Ohio this week whether he thought Woods’ ego might be hindering a smart choice.
The two-time major champion responded, “We all have pretty big egos, including him. I believe he intends to continue playing until it becomes impossible for him and perhaps a golf cart doesn’t fit that criteria. If they permitted me to utilize one of those vehicles, then I would take advantage.”
Last week, Morikawa attended Woods’ Tiger Jam event in Las Vegas alongside several high-profile guests. The festivities included golf, poker and other activities aimed at supporting his foundation.
