Tiger Woods and former President Donald Trump have crossed paths several times, including when Trump awarded Woods the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2019. Woods said he had trouble sleeping after last weekend’s attack on President Trump and arrived in Scotland for this week’s British Open in the wrong frame of mind.
“I didn’t achieve much because I wasn’t in the right frame of mind,” Woods told the BBC. “It was a long night (after the assassination attempt), but that’s all we saw all this time.”
Woods is preparing to play in the 152nd British Open at Royal Troon in Scotland, but has had little time to recover since arriving.
“I didn’t get any sleep on the plane, and then I ended up on the golf course,” Woods said.
Woods played an 18-hole round at Royal Troon on Sunday, practising his chipping and the layout of the green. He hasn’t won the British Open since 2006 and hasn’t played in a tournament since last year’s U.S. Open. This week’s tournament is likely to be Woods’ final of 2024.
