Vikings Add Former Panthers, Patriots QB After Sending J.J. McCarthy to IR
Minnesota signed Matt Corral on Friday, August 16 — a former third-round pick of the Carolina Panthers who also played a stint as a member of the New England Patriots.Corral, 25, has never taken a regular-season snap in the NFL, despite the Panthers selecting him with the No. 94 overall pick in the 2022 draft. Part of that equation was a foot injury during his rookie campaign that landed him on the injured reserve list (IR).Carolina replaced head coach Matt Rhule and the regime that was in charge when the Panthers drafted Corral, which led to his release in late August 2023, just ahead of the start of last season. He spent time on the Patriots’ practice squad, but never played his way into a game.Corral has also spent time outside of the NFL, linking up with the Birmingham Stallions of the UFL before landing in Minnesota, per Kevin Seifert of ESPN.
