Simone Biles’ biological mother said she was “open to help,” but the Olympian didn’t offer any
Simone Biles’ lavish lifestyle is very different from that of her biological mother, Shannon Biles, who appears to be struggling to make a living in the Olympian’s hometown of Columbus, Ohio.
The gymnast split with Shannon, who abandoned her daughter at an early age due to addiction issues. In a new interview, Shannon Biles explained why she abandoned her famous daughter and asked for forgiveness.
“Letting go of my children was hard, but I had to do what I had to do. “I wasn’t able to take care of them. I was still using, but [my father] didn’t want me in and out of their lives when I wasn’t feeling well,” she told the outlet. She also expressed sadness that she won’t be able to attend some of Simone’s biggest events in her life, such as her wedding to NFL player Jonathan Owens in 2023.
“I want to make amends personally with Simone. I’m just waiting for her and (her sister) Adria,” Shannon said. I speak to Adria more than I speak to Simone and I would like to ask for his forgiveness. Can we move forward? Don’t judge me by my past. Let’s move on.
“I’m waiting for my opportunity, but I’m waiting for it to come to me. Let’s sit down. “You just have to be patient,” she added.
Elsewhere in her chat with the Daily Mail, Shannon said she’d be happy to accept any form of financial help from her famous daughter if she offered it, but she was looking for someone to get together with her first. “Of course I’d accept his help,” Shannon said. “She hasn’t [offered] it until now. I\’m here. I\’m okay.\”
She also explained that she was so overtaken with pride at Simone\’s stellar Paris Olympics outing that she had to throw a party in her backyard. Her outstanding performances have earned Simone three gold medals and one silver medal in various balance sports.
Shannon also said that Simone’s biological father, Kevin Clemons, wants to extend an olive branch to her. Clemons also struggled with addiction and was estranged from his daughter, but managed to stay in contact with Shannon. “We both miss her,” he said. I talk to him all the time. He says, \’If you talk to Simone, give her my number. “I would love to talk to him. But I can’t even talk to him. I have to go see my dad,” Shannon explained. The 27-year-old Olympic champion has earned a staggering net worth of around $25 million from her illustrious sports career, with a lot more on the way thanks to her recent strong performance at the just-concluded 2024 Paris Olympics.
With a collection of luxury Birkin bags that frequently appear on her social media pages, an elegant Range Rover, and a Texas mansion, Simone’s success is undeniable. But her lifestyle stands in stark contrast to that of her mother, Shannon, who still struggles to make ends meet by working as a cashier in Columbus, Ohio.
The couple have been separated for more than 20 years, and have had little contact with each other since Shannon left Simone when she was a child, according to the Daily Mail. Shannon’s father, Ronald Biles, and his second wife, Nelly, adopted Simone along with her sister, Adria, when she was 6. Ronald’s sister also took in Shannon’s two older children, Tevin, now 29, and Ashley, now 34. According to the news, the athlete on the flight has always refused to settle with his mother and blocked the main stages of his life.
Simone has not yet provided financial support to mothers around the world who were engaged in the refund of debt. Shannon is sober now, but she can’t boast about her financial prowess — she still lives in the same red-brick townhouse in the crime-ridden Franklinton neighborhood — but her daughter can afford luxury homes and nice vacation spots. The 52-year-old racked up a string of debts, committed several crimes, and was in and out of court for more than 25 years.
A Chapter 7 bankruptcy filing obtained by the Daily Mail in 2018 revealed that Simone’s biological mother was penniless and only had a $34 credit card in her name. Shannon’s possessions included two inoperable 2008 Toyota Scion XBs and one inoperable 2003 GMC Sierra, valued at a combined total of $2,125. She claimed her home was only worth $9,684, as well as household goods, appliances, clothing, shoes and jewelry totaling $9,650. At the time, she owed $14,234 to 21 companies, including health care and financial services companies, online shopping sites and $3,834 in student loans. She agreed to pay her main creditor, the financial company Integrity Funding Ohio LLC, in installments and the debt was settled the following year. However, her money problems didn\’t go away as she was sued by debt collecting agency LVNV Funding LLC in 2021 with a judgment against her to pay off $916.25.
Shannon was reportedly still paying off her debts as recently as December last year despite installments being collected through her wages, which she previously reported as $1,688 a month.
