Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy pay $50 million to avoid serious problems
Founded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, TGL was abandoned last year after damage to the SoFi Center’s inflatable dome, but the venue is now undergoing extensive renovations.
Originally scheduled for January, TGL, which will feature top PGA Tour players, was set to bring a state-of-the-art golf simulator to West Palm Gardens. But unexpected complications arose just months before its debut, leading league officials to postpone the season for a year. Sophy Center’s serious damage to the inflatable dome -shaped roof is a major factor in postponement, disturbing the single league Woods and Mciloy’s plan.
At that time, the statement was announced as follows. “Major partners, especially players, six teams owned groups, PGA tour leadership, business partner, SOFI, ESPN, Palm Beach State College. To return the start
The declaration was continued. \ “This decision was made after a short -term solution, a potential construction deadline, a player schedule, and a sports TV calendar. Despite the site’s new schedule, we remain excited about the future of TGL and will continue to build excitement among players, fans and teams between now and the start of the season.
Nine months later, the delayed launch is fast approaching. To ensure a smooth launch, officials have invested in a more permanent structure at the Florida base, according to a report from the Palm Beach Post. However, Woods and McIlroy faced another hurdle at the end of 2023.
This came when Jon Rahm, one of golf’s biggest stars, announced his departure from the squad just weeks before moving to LIV Golf. Things got even more difficult for TGL officials when Rahm convinced another Innovation League member, Tyrell Hatton, to move to Saudi Arabia.
As a result, Hatton’s name was removed from the list, even though he had already been allocated a spot in one of the six TGL franchises to join McIlroy, Adam Scott and Keegan Bradley at Boston Common. Despite the loss of Rahm and Hatton, the roster has since been filled, with Japan\’s Hideki Matsuyama taking the vacant spot alongside McIlroy with the Boston franchise.
Shane Lowry, McIlroy\’s teammate from Northern Ireland at the Olympics, also joined the start-up league this year, before the player list was officially completed. Along with Lowry, the final three spots were taken by Wyndham Clark, Ming Woo Lee and Ludwig Aberg.
