The incident marked the start of a downward spiral in Woods’ career, leading him to take a break from golf and issue a statement that seemed to admit to the affair. His statement read: “After much soul-searching, I have decided to take an indefinite break from professional golf. I need to focus on being a better husband, a better father, and a better person.”
However, once the news broke, more and more women came forward to the press with Nordegren, including “a wave of porn stars, strippers, escorts, and party girls,” which left her feeling completely “embarrassed and cheated” at the time. The couple filed for divorce less than a year later, in August 2010, with Nordegren receiving a huge $100 million (£75 million) settlement and joint custody of their children.
