Simone Biles Makes Surprising Admission About Being a ‘Football Wifey’
Chicago Bears safety Jonathan Owens wasn’t going to miss the chance to support his wife Simone Biles at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Owens got permission from the Bears to leave training camp and fly to Paris to watch Biles compete in-person, where she won gold in the team final, all-around and vault, and claimed silver in the floor exercise. And now that Biles’ Olympic journey is over (at least until 2028, potentially), she gets to switch into what he calls “football wifey” mode. During a recent interview with Vanessa Richardson of Space City Home Network, Biles opened up about how her and Owens to support one another during their respective athletic endeavors while admitting something surprising about the 29-year-old defensive back. “I feel like he knows more gymnastics than I know football,” Biles said.
“He’s very educated. He’s kind of a nerd when it comes to stuff like that. So, I just make sure to find him on the field, then whatever happens, happens. Because it’s such a sport that you never know what can happen. So once I find him, I find him.”
Though his flight was a bit delayed, Owens made sure he got to Paris in time to watch Biles compete. His social media was filled with plenty of tweets, likes and reposts as he hyped up his superstar wife, who happens to be the most-decorated gymnast of all time and just two gold medals away from tying the Olympic record.
“His support means the world,” Biles added. “We’ve been through so much together, not just as athletes but as a couple. So, to have him there because he wasn’t able to go to Tokyo meant the world.”
Though Biles’ transition from Olympian to football fan got off to a rocky start after showing up to Owens’ preseason game in a Green Bay Packers jersey, things have seemingly settled down.
When Biles wraps up her 30-city Gold Over America Tour around the middle of the NFL season, she presumably will be making regular appearances at Owens’ games.
