Posts all over social media indicate that the PGA Tour and PIF meetings are expected to last a couple of days. However, Tiger Woods and the Tour have received backlash over the talks.
9/11 Justice, a group that accuses Saudi Arabia for past terrorist attacks, felt extremely unhappy with the meeting taking place on the anniversary of the Twin Towers attack.
Brett Eagleson, the president of the organization, said (via New York Post):
“Tomorrow, we commemorate the 23rd anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy, yet here we are today, in New York City, down the street from Ground Zero and the PGA Tour and Tiger Woods are negotiating with them. … It is disgusting, unacceptable, and incredibly painful that the Tour and Woods would do this — especially now.”
The PGA Tour and PIF announced on June 6, 2023 that they had signed a framework agreement to come together.
However, with the deadline to arrive at an agreement lapsing on December 31, the two sides have continued to engage with each other.
