John Catlin misses LIV Golf Chicago to compete in Irish Open instead.
John Catlin is at Royal County Down Golf Club in Newcastle, Northern Ireland to compete in the DP World Tour Irish Open. Catlin chose to play in the event despite it overlapping with the LIV Individual Golf Championship. Kasulin can choose to play a Chicago Boling Burok Golf Club, as he is a parent as part of the association that was monetized by Saudi Arabia’s Open Financial Fund (PIF). He was able to have a perspective on the field if the damage occurred. Regardless, Catlin travelled to Northern Ireland to compete in the tournament he won in 2020. The same triumph at Galgorm Castle earned him the opportunity to compete in the 2024 tournament as the previous champion. The Irish Open will take place from 12th to 15th September. The field will feature big names such as Rory McIlroy and crowd favorite Shane Lowry. Other top players in the field include Robert McIntyre, who won two PGA Visit events last season, and Aaron Lai, who also won a U.S. event in 2024.The tournament will also feature several players with long and storied histories in European and world golf, including Padraig Harrington and Luke Donald. Among the young players, brothers Nicolai and Rasmus Hojgaard stand out. John Catlin will be joined by another LIV Golf player, Laurie Canter.Canter has already won a DP World Tour opportunity this year. His best results this year were two wins at the Asian Visit (Universal Arrangement Macau and Saudi Open). He played in two DP World Visit events and finished in the top 10 at the Mauritius Open. He also played in the British Open Championship where he finished in a respectable T16th position. These events have elevated him to 138th in the world rankings and he also leads the Asia Circuit Universal Rankings with over 140 points. Finishing the season in first place will guarantee him a spot in LIV Golf in 2025. In Coach Greg Norman’s league, Catlin has played in five tournaments as a drop-in entrant in 2024. His best result was a seventh-place finish in the seventh tournament, with the Nashville event being separate from his other two top-25 results. His worst result was 37th at the Greenbrier tournament. However, in five fair competitions, he scored 13.28 points and ranks 42nd in the individual season standings.
