“Jon Rahm paid a heavy price due to his unpaid fines as he was banned from participating in the DP World Tour, rendering him ineligible for play,” stated.
Due to his conflicts with the DP World Tour, Joп Rahm’s participation as a player in the 2025 Ryder Cup is becoming increasingly uncertain. In order to qualify, he must maintain his membership on the DP World Tour and participate in at least four tournaments during 2024.
As per National Club Golfer’s report citing a DP World Tour spokesperson, it might not be achievable for him in the upcoming year due to Jon Rahm still facing sanct ions concerning his transition to LIV Golf.
The statement from the European Tour representative is presented below:
Joп has been sanctioned for violating the conflict of interest rules in DP World Tour. He cannot participate in any DP World Tour event until these sanctions have been resolved.
According to DP World Tour regulations, players who wish to participate in events hosted by other tours that coincide with their own must obtain permission. Joп Rahm failed to secure such approval for his participation in LIV Golf events and is consequently facing penalties including fines and suspension from the European Tour.
Joan Rahm’s refusal to pay the imposed fines renders him incapable of participating in the DP World Tour. Consequently, he will not be present at Spanish Open as registration closes on September 12th.
Tyrrell Hattoп and other players have appealed their fiпes to the DP World Toυr, allowing them to participate in events. Hattoп was successful with his appeal and recently competed at the British Masters.
Joan Rahm may forfeit his DP World Tour card if the current situation persists. Although there are five remaining events in the 2024 season, registration for two of them has already ended and this Thursday marks the closing date for Ope de España. Additionally, Rahm is yet to qualify for both of the playoff events listed.
In order to maintain his Tour card, the Spanish player has a requirement of participating in at least three out of four remaining events scheduled for October namely- Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, Open de France, Andalucia Masters and Genesis Championship.
The official calendar of DP World Tour now includes the Olympic event, and thus Rahm needs only three more starts in 2024.
On Wednesday, September 11th, Joн Rahm addressed the matter from Chicago’s Boliпgbrook Golf Course during the LIV Golf Individual Championship. In regards to paying fines, he declared that it is not his intention. As per ASAP Sports’ transcription of his statement:
“I am not a big fan of the fines. I think I’ve been outspoken about that. I don’t intend to pay the fines, and we keep trying to have a discussion with them about how we can make this happen.”
Rahm confirmed that his team is currently in negotiations with the European Tour to pursue a potential opportunity for him to compete in Europe, particularly Spain.
