Simone Biles says her body “needed a rest” after the Olympics, but is now “really excited” for the G.O.A.T. Tour. (EXCLUSIVE)
“I’m really looking forward to the fans seeing the best of both worlds,” she says. “Men’s and women’s gymnastics in the same arena, on the same floor, at the same time.”
Simone Biles hasn’t been to her home training facility, the World Champions Center, much these days. “I honestly only went to the gym a few times to work out because of my schedule,” the 11-time Olympic medalist told PEOPLE in an exclusive interview ahead of her Gold Over America tour. “I wasn’t home a lot, but my body needed that break, so I’m not mad.” After suffering a calf injury at the Paris Olympics, Biles wore the boot while carrying the Olympic flag at the closing ceremony and has been seen wearing the accessory in the weeks since her epic “comeback” in which she won four medals at the Games. Now she is preparing for the Tour Gold Over America (alias G.O.A.T. Seekhrushchka “will stop. “I’m really excited for the tour and I think the time off has helped me prepare mentally and physically,” Biles, 27, told PEOPLE.
The legend will headline an event that will showcase his G.O.A.T. tendencies as well as the extraordinary talents of other Team USA gymnasts, including Jordan Childs, Jade Carey, Hesley Rivera, Fred Richard, Paul Judah and Brodie Malone. “I’m really looking forward to the fans seeing the best of both worlds,” she says. “Men’s and women’s gymnastics will be performed at the same time, in the same arena, on the same floor.”
In her performance, she says, the icon will be showcasing much of her repertoire, including her spectacular double entrance and Biles I on floor. Unfortunately, skills are gone, but not forgotten.
“We’re definitely going to get rid of the Yurchenko double mountain,” laughs Biles, who posted a tongue-in-cheek funeral on Instagram earlier this month for the “world’s toughest” vault, also known as Biles II. “Don’t do it again! She had a good run!”
Instead, the gymnast is focused on “inspiring future generations” during the tour, which she says will be a “time to give back” to all the fans who support her.
What’s next for the G.O.A.T.? Beyond the G.O.A.T.? Biles and her husband, Chicago Bears safety Jonathan Owens, are ready to move into their long-awaited new home.
“Jonathan is very free and allows me to lead the design and construction process,” Biles says. “We feel so blessed to be building our dream home. We are once looking forward to expanding our families officially. \ “
