‘PGA Tour Runs the Presidents Cup’: Brooks Koepka Throws a No-Holds-Barred Jab at Jay Monahan as American Dream Gets Crushed
Brooks Koepka made his debut in the Presidents Cup in 2017. He was a part of the US team for as long as he was a member of the PGA Tour. However, in 2022, he defected to the breakaway league and could not play in the tournament anymore. While the LIV Golf players are now permitted to be a part of the Ryder Cup event, the Presidents Cup still allows only the PGA Tour and the European Tour players.
Having scored only two points so far, with a forced withdrawal at the 2019 edition due to injury, the 2023 PGA Championship winner did want to be a part of the field. However, instead, he revealed why the players of the Saudi-backed league are not allowed. Brooks Koepka appeared on the Barstool Sport’s Pardon My Take along with former 4 Aces GC player Talor Gooch.
Generally, both the players would be in contention for a spot in the USA’s team against the International team, given their performances. However, it is the PGA Tour that will not let them in and keep the players banned. When asked about how he felt about not being a part of the Presidents Cup, Brooks Koepka said, “The PGA Tour runs the President’s Cup so they won’t [let us in].”

Further in the interview, even new team member Talor Gooch was asked about his take on not being able to represent the USA at the Royal Montreal Golf Club. To this Gooch very casually replied, “I don’t like causing any chaos or anything, so I’ll just let them do their thing.” Brooks Koepka, in the interview, even gave his predictions on the LIV Golf and PGA Tour merger.
Almost all the players are pretty much tired of the rift between the two leagues. Be it PGA Tour’s Rory McIlroy who stated that they could easily wrap their heads around the merger, or Koepka, who is unable to play at the Presidents Cup. They all think that the merger can be concluded in just a couple of years. As the question in the interview trailed off, the 34-year-old LIV Golfer admitted that there has been no update about it.
Jay Monahan has already released the 2025 schedule. Despite the procrastination of the board members, the Smash GC still seems to be very optimistic about the situation. While talking about the Presidents Cup situation, he concluded, “I feel like in two years from now I think we’ll all be laughing about this, and we’ll all be playing somewhere [together].
