Gold Over America Tour Choreographer Explains Why Simone Biles Was the Perfect Star to Bring the Idea to Life
Simone Biles’ Gold Over America Tour (GOAT) is back on the road, reigniting the excitement of gymnastics fans across the country. Mark Swanhart, a renowned director and choreographer who has worked for big names like The Rolling Stones and Disney, saw an opportunity to create something new after the Tokyo 2021 Olympics. He envisioned a tour that would combine the grace and strength of gymnastics with the theatricality of live entertainment to bring the magic of the sport to fans outside of traditional competitive circles. Once he had the concept in mind, Swanhart realized Simone Biles was the perfect star to bring the idea to life. \, “We accompanied her and said he wanted to do his best with her. The current tour has already played seven shows since kicking off on September 16, with the next show scheduled for September 27 in Minneapolis.
Swanheart is especially excited to be touring his home country, but believes this one will offer concertgoers a completely different experience than previous Olympics. Fans can expect a story that has been passed on, exciting choreography, and of course, a surprising sport’s exploit.
The list of gymnasts accompanied by bile is only a star. In addition to Biles, the lineup will include her close friend and fellow Olympian Jordan Childs, gold medalist Jade Carey, and standout collegiate gymnasts Ian Guenther and Brodie Malone from Stanford University.
While Biles won’t be in attendance for every show, Swanhart and his team assure audiences that the performances are carefully curated to guarantee an unforgettable experience. “I think people are going to have a completely different experience than they saw at the Olympics,” he said.
“Sometimes gymnastics can be very sterile. The men’s floor exercise doesn’t even have music. But here it’s filled with music and even a middle section to make you feel like you’re at the Olympic Games.”
