Will Simone Biles retire after the 2024 Paris Olympics?
Believe it or not, Simone Biles, the most decorated U.S. gymnast of all time, stands to win even more medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics, with three more gold medals, one silver medal, and a second all-around title. Seriously, what can’t she do?
After withdrawing from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics to prioritise her mental health, she will be returning to competitive gymnastics at this year’s Olympics. Plus, she admitted to also struggling with twisties, “mental blocks that create a dangerous disconnect between a gymnast’s mind and body when she’s in the air,” according to the Cleveland Clinic.
So her big win in Paris would be huge, especially since she took time off and officially returns to training in 2023. That being said, fans (yes, us included 👋) are wondering if the GOAT will continue her pursuit of a gold medal at the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028. Here’s everything we know so far about Simone Biles’ (possible) retirement. According to Simone, she’s always open to competing in competitions. “Never say never.” “The next Olympics are at home, so you never know, but I’m definitely getting older,” she told reporters on August 3, according to Reuters.
Of course, age is just a number, but most professional gymnasts retire in their twenties to twenty-fives. At 27, Simone is the second oldest women\’s Olympic all-around champion in history after Maria Gorokhovskaya, who was 30 when she won the all-around at the Helsinki Games in 1952.
It remains to be seen and is too early to ask! Simone took home three gold medals and one silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. While she made history, she and her teammate Suni Lee took a tumble on the balance beams and ranked outside the podium level.
\”Obviously, it wasn\’t my best performance,\” Simone said after the 2024 Olympic gymnastics competitions, per NBC Sports. “But at the end of the day, whoever wins the medal gets the medal. It’s very exciting because you never know. That’s gymnastics.” She added, “I can’t be upset about my performance because I’ve achieved more than I ever dreamed of, not just in the Olympics but in sport. A few years ago, I never thought I’d be able to come back here and compete in the Olympics and win four medals… I am so proud of myself. »

Simone also posted a message about all the “what’s next” questions she gets on social media, writing, “We really should stop asking athletes what’s next after they win a medal at the Olympics.” She continued the message, adding, “Let’s spend all of our lives enjoying this moment.” » Well said!
