Scottie Scheffler and Matt Fitzpatrick expressed strong criticism about Keegan Bradley’s win at the BMW Championship.

Matt Fitzpatrick and Scottie Scheffler voiced their strong dissatisfaction with a PGA rules official at the BMW Championship, describing the situation as “outrageous” and “an absolute disgrace.”

As the last round of the 2024 BMW Championship began at Castle Pines Golf Club, Fitzpatrick was in a tie for 27th place with several holes still to play. The eighth hole, a par five, became central to a dispute involving the rules officials.

Fitzpatrick requested to replace his driver because it had a crack on its face. However, rule G-9 of the USGA states that a club cannot be replaced just for having such damage. Since golf requires high precision, and the issue was not considered “significant,” the 29-year-old’s request was denied.

Scottie Scheffler, who was playing alongside Fitzpatrick, also felt frustrated with the ruling. When an official claimed there was no “significant damage,” Fitzpatrick commented, “This is outrageous; it’s a total disgrace. I just saw a ball behave completely differently than it did all morning—it couldn’t be more obvious.”

When Fitzpatrick’s concerns were ignored, Scheffler stepped in to back him up. The conversation proceeded as follows:

Matt Fitzpatrick: “It’s dented. There’s a noticeable crack that’s affecting the ball’s flight.”

Rules Official: “Our decision is final.”

Matt Fitzpatrick: “So you’re telling me I have to use -wood for the rest of the day?”

The Rules Official said, “I will speak with Steven, the chief referee, and meet you at the tee.”

Matt Fitzpatrick expressed his frustration, saying, “This is outrageous; it’s an utter disgrace. I just watched a ball behave completely differently than it did all morning. The difference couldn’t be more obvious.”
