Simone Biles reflects on Olympic injury, likening her body to a “ticking time bomb”

The second half of Netflix’s Simone Biles: The Rise depicts the moment the gymnast was injured during the 2024 Paris Olympics. For Simone Biles, the 2024 Paris Olympics was meant to mark her return. But just before her long-awaited return to the Olympic arena, the U.S. gymnast suffered a calf injury that gave many fans a sense of déjà vu. During the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Biles was forced to withdraw from the competition to protect her health after she began to experience “crunches” during her performance. In a new trailer for Part 2 of the Netflix docuseries Simone Biles: Rising, the Olympic champion reveals what really happened in the moment that stunned viewers around the world.

The clip shows Biles moments before the gymnastics qualification round at the 2024 Summer Olympics, telling her coach “My calf or something just pulled all the way.” Shortly after, Biles is shown getting examined by the Team USA medics. Despite the scare, Biles ended up posting the highest score on the floor and vault Olympic qualifiers. When asked by former Olympic teammate Aly Raisman how she competed “in so much pain,” Biles reportedly responded, “I couldn’t let people tell me I gave up again.”

“With everything I’ve done and been through, I feel like it gives me more confidence,” Biles continued. “But as I get older, I get a little more scared… my body is on a time bomb.”

The Netflix documentary about Biles chronicles the Olympic gold medalist’s return to international competition and the road to it. Although the series is dedicated to the 27 -year -old Olympic preparation, the staff also showed errors during competitions that can potentially help the American Geordan Chils to return their bronze medal.

Providing the public exclusive behind the scenes of the life of biles inside and outside the gymnastics, the second part of Simone Biles: Rising will be available for streaming on October 25.
