BREAKING: Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Brooks Koepka, and Bryson DeChambeau set to compete against each other in a new golf tournament.
Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau, Rory McIlroy, and Brooks Koepka are set to receive substantial compensation for participating in an exhibition match this December. These four players will compete against each other in a televised event representing their respective tours.
Daniel Rapoport stated that each individual will receive a $4 million payout. He shared this information on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
“The players are set to benefit significantly from this arrangement, with appearance fees taking precedence over competitive prize money. The figure that keeps coming up is a guaranteed $4 million for each player.”
He compared it to the money players receive in a Signature Event or LIV tournament, stating that each participant would earn this simply for taking part. Rapoport further clarified that neither the PGA Tour nor LIV Golf was mentioned in any official promotion because the event is unrelated to these tours. Although it may appear otherwise, it was independently organized as an exclusive gathering designed purely for fans.
Rory McIlroy talks about December’s matchup with Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau.
Rory McIlroy has extensively discussed the upcoming tournament in December, where he and Scottie Scheffler will compete against Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka. According to McIlroy, while the event isn’t intended to “send a message,” it’s something that “all golf fans” can look forward to with excitement. Rory himself is eager about participating in this event (Imagn).
Rory McIlroy is thrilled about the Imagn event.
He stated, as reported by Sports Illustrated:
“You have the best player in the world on your side. Along with that, you’ve got Bryson and Brooks, both of whom have claimed major titles in the past two years. Then there’s me—I might not match their recent accomplishments exactly, but I certainly consider myself one of the top players globally.”
McIlroy views it as an opportunity to demonstrate to golf enthusiasts that harmony is possible between the two tours, offering a preview of what the future could entail for everyone involved. He also emphasized the significance of timing, pointing out that December typically lacks major golfing events. This makes it an ideal period to rekindle excitement and enthusiasm for the sport during its traditionally quieter season.
