One has to wonder, did they think “500 years from now they will have flying machines and it will be really funny” :)) Fort Tolukko is a historic fort located in the city of Ternate in Indonesia. Built by the Portuguese in 1522, the fort was a strategic military outpost used to protect the region’s lucrative spice trade, particularly cloves, which were highly sought after in Europe. Its position on a hill overlooking the coast provided an excellent vantage point for monitoring sea routes. Over time, Fort Tolukko changed hands, being controlled by the Dutch and other colonial powers. Today, it stands as a well-preserved symbol of Ternate’s rich colonial past, drawing visitors interested in the island’s history and the broader story of European colonization in the Spice Islands.
