Perez “training hard” to perform well at his ‘home race’:
– Sergio Perez is eagerly anticipating the United States Grand Prix, one of his “favourite races” of the season. Despite facing challenges this year, the Mexican hopes to deliver a strong performance at the Circuit of The Americas, aiming to reduce the 41-point gap between Red Bull and McLaren in the Constructors’ Championship. Perez shared that he’s been putting in significant preparation at home in Mexico.
“It feels like we have had a long time away from racing! It’s nice to be back and to be heading to one of our favourite races of the season. It’s a special race for me, everyone jokes I have so many home races, but Austin always feels like one for me and the support is really nice. I have been training hard back home in Mexico and in regular touch with the Team back in the UK,” said Perez.
– Currently sitting in P8 in the Drivers’ Championship with 144 points, Perez is keen to bounce back after a challenging season where he secured only four podiums and no wins. He hopes the work he’s done over the break will give him the edge to perform in front of his many fans in Austin.
– With the RB20 posing difficulties for both Perez and his teammate Max Verstappen in recent races, particularly with balance issues, Perez is optimistic about the modifications made to the car.
“We are looking to come into Austin in a better place with the car. We have made some changes in the break, aimed at improving the pace and we will see how competitive we are in Austin. It being a Sprint race makes things a little tricky, because we have one practice session to get the car right before it counts but that’s where working as a Team comes in and that’s what we excel at,” Perez explained.
