“Surprised Me a Little”: Tiger Woods Once Smiled at Son Charlie’s Trash Talk
Did Tiger Woods demonstrate that he still has his skills, or was it simply a fortunate day?
The scramble contest at the PNC Championship consistently delivers thrilling competitions and memorable moments. Many elite professionals join forces with family members to vie against one another, and the 2022 tournament continued this tradition. The father-son duo of Vijay Singh and Qass Singh secured victory, while Team Daly and Team Thomas shared second place honors. Among all participants, Charlie Woods teaming up with his iconic father Tiger Woods certainly captured our attention as well.
In the post-tournament interview with TenGolf, Charlie was questioned about his insights into his father’s abilities during the tournament. The young standout replied, “I thought I already knew what he could do. But yesterday was the best I’ve ever seen him play.” As laughter filled the room in response to this remark, Charlie further commented, “That surprised me a little.”
The room erupted in laughter when Charlie Woods commented on his father’s performance. Amplifying the humor, Tiger Woods agreed with a chuckle, saying, “Yeah… I used to be good.” Quite humble for such an iconic golfer, don’t you think? He went on to add that it was nice “to roll back the clock so [Charlie] could see what I once could do,” acknowledging he received a bit of teasing along the way.
After the amusing response to his son’s comment, Tiger Woods also credited his former colleague, Jim “Bones” Mackay. Woods remarked, “Anyone familiar with what I was capable of back then knows it’s Bones. He really got a kick out of that yesterday.” Following an accident in February 2021 and making a successful recovery to return to golf, Woods acknowledged he wasn’t quite the same on the course as before.
The accident has caused significant mental and physical difficulties from which the former world number one is still struggling to recover. Charlie Woods recognizes his father’s remarkable influence but was nevertheless amazed by his dad’s performance during the scramble championship, where he showcased some incredible shots at the 2022 PNC Championship. The father-son team had several standout moments throughout the tournament that contributed to their T8 finish alongside their two rounds in this event.
Team Woods concluded the second round with a total score of 124, having achieved an eagle in each round along with 16 birdies. If not for the two bogeys on the seventh and seventeenth holes during this round, they would have tied for fourth place. Instead, they finished eighth alongside Team Spieth and Team O’Meara—both featuring father-son duos as well.
Ultimately, they ended up playing 6 more strokes than the victorious team, Vijay Singh and Qass Singh. The PNC Championship for this year is set to take place on December 20th. Unfortunately, we won’t have the opportunity to watch the Woods duo compete this time. However, it’s confirmed that Team Langer and Team Singh, who won in previous years, will definitely be participating.
