Hamilton is hoping that a change in surroundings will bring about a shift in his fortunes, after experiencing several frustrating years since Max Verstappen took over as the dominant force in the sport.
It has been a challenging final season with the team where he secured six of his world drivers’ titles, as Hamilton often expressed dissatisfaction with his car’s performance.
Their current pace has placed the team far behind in both the constructors’ and drivers’ standings, prompting them to focus on surpassing their rivals—including Hamilton’s future employers—in the next season.
No matter how the rest of the season unfolds or what happens in the final race in Abu Dhabi, Hamilton will continue to sport Mercedes colors for a few weeks after the main event.
This means that the possibility of a post-season testing debut for Ferrari shortly after the grand prix has been ruled out, as Hamilton reportedly still needs to meet sponsorship obligations with Mercedes.
Discussing the chance of him showing up in red on test day, BBC F1 expert Andrew Benson stated: “Absolutely none.”
Hamilton is contracted with Mercedes until the end of the year, and according to them, he is not allowed to test for Ferrari at season’s end.
“They have numerous promotional and farewell tasks ahead after 12 years together, including 18 years with Mercedes engines.”
