A few days after Richardson secured a silver medal in the 100-meter final, her performance as the anchor leg contributed to Team USA’s victory in the 4 x 100-meter relay.
Sha’Carri Richardson agrees that the iconic photo capturing her staring down her competitors in the middle of the 4 x 100m relay at the Paris Summer Olympics deserves a place in, or at least nearby, the Louvre.
In an interview with Refinery29, 24-year-old Richardson mentioned, “I might have to hang it in my home.”
The Texas sprinter, known for her “Sha’Carri Stare,” is now explaining the famous side-eye. She utilized it to make a comeback in the relay’s anchor leg and secure the gold medal for Team USA.
Richardson told the media, “I glanced over and instantly knew that regardless of what was happening, I wasn’t going to let anyone — not even myself — stand in my way. There was no chance I’d permit myself to finish anywhere but first, claim that medal, or disappoint those women and all the support behind us as we crossed that finish line representing Team USA.”

Richardson believed the team had a solid opportunity to secure first place, despite currently being in fourth behind Gabby Thomas, Melissa Jefferson, and Twanisha Terry, the 200-meter gold medalist.
