Adam Smith-Neale has been placed on suspension by the Darts Regulation Authority.
Professional darts player Adam Smith-Neale has been suspended following the emergence of footage that appears to show him punching his opponent at a local amateur event.
Smith-Neale, who is ranked 82nd globally and possesses a PDC tour card, participated in an event in Nuneaton on Saturday. A video has surfaced showing him seemingly hitting someone in the face after being defeated by them.
The 30-year-old faced stunned onlookers after allegedly punching the man who had turned to shake his hand. Following the incident, the man gathered his darts and left, while several fans approached Smith-Neale in response.
The incident’s footage quickly went viral, prompting the Darts Regulation Authority to take decisive action. The DRA, darts’ governing body, has announced that they have suspended the 30-year-old player.
The DRA announced in a statement: “On March 12, 2024, Nigel Mawer, the chairman of the DRA, decided to suspend Adam Smith-Neale from attending or participating in events sanctioned by the organization.”
This pertains to an accusation that he attacked another player after his match at an amateur event in Nuneaton on March 9, 2024. He has the right to challenge the suspension decision and will attend a disciplinary hearing on a yet-to-be-determined date.
The PDC is aware of the incident as well. A spokesperson stated, “The PDC has been informed about a video from an unaffiliated event that includes a Tour Card Holder and is currently circulating on social media.”
