Max Verstappen receives additional penalties for his actions during the Mexico Grand Prix as stewards revise their decision.

Max Verstappen, the Red Bull driver, may not have had a pleasant experience at the Mexican Grand Prix and faced additional consequences for his actions on Sunday evening.

Verstappen, aged 27, finished in a disappointing sixth place in Mexico City and was labeled “dangerous” by McLaren driver Lando Norris.

Exactly one week after Norris received a penalty in Austin, Verstappen was issued two ten-second penalties following a wheel-to-wheel battle with the British driver.

Both incidents occurred on the tenth lap when the Red Bull driver pushed his opponent off the track at turn four.

On turn eight, Verstappen surged forward at high speed to reclaim second place. However, this maneuver forced both cars off the track and nearly led to another collision between them.

“I just dodged another crash like before. I’ll be hitting the wall any moment now.”

The race stewards determined that Verstappen was at fault on both occasions, leading to two ten-second penalties rather than the standard five seconds.

After the race, he received an additional penalty of two points on his super licence due to the incident at turn four.

This gives him a total of six points over the past 12 months. If a driver accumulates 12 points, they will face a race ban.

The stewards’ letter addressed to the Red Bull team manager stated: “[Lando] Norris was trying to overtake [Max] Verstappen on the outside at Turn 4. At the entry, apex, and as he approached the exit of the turn, Norris was ahead of Verstappen when he began being pushed off track.”

The Stewards believe the maneuver was executed safely and under control, and that Norris could have completed it on track if not for being forced off by Verstappen. Although he cut the corner, Norris promptly returned the position gained as a result to Sainz.

Following the race, Zak Brown, CEO of McLaren, stated firmly that “enough is enough.”
